Elmer Wendell “Pete” Braden, age 75, passed away Monday November 21, 2016 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday November 26, 2016 at 3:00pm in the chapel of the Pine Knot Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00pm until time of service. Pine Knot Funeral Home is assisting the family of Elmer Wendell “Pete” Braden with his celebration of life service.

earl-chitwoodEarl Kearns Chitwood age 79 years, 1 month, and 12 days of Stearns, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Cassada officiating. Burial followed in the McCreary Memorial Gardens.  Steven Terry, Mischa Crabtree, Randy Martin, Nicholas Martin, Chase Cardoza, and Caden Cardoza served as pallbearers. John Beams, Mike Meadors, Steve Martin, Johnny Jenkins, and Bob Watters served as honorary pallbearers.

He was born October 3, 1937 in Whitley City, Kentucky to Elijah Kearns Chitwood and Della (Murphy) Chitwood. Earl was a member of the Whitley City Second Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, worked at the Pine Knot Job Corp Center for many years, was a retired school bus driver, and was actively involved in AA for nearly 29 years. His hobbies included reading his bible, fishing, mowing his lawn, watching dirt track racing, and he especially enjoyed “weigh” fish with all his buddies at Arby’s. Earl never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Shirley (King) Chitwood, three half-brothers, and three half-sisters.

Earl is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Chitwood; son Terry Chitwood and wife, Jackie of Lancaster, Kentucky; daughters, Loriann “Sissy”Lawson and fiance, Joel Gilbertson, Kernersville, North Carolina, and Christy Claiborne and husband, Greg, of Helenwood, Tennessee; step-sons, Steve Martin and wife, Rose, of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and Rick Martin and wife, Debbie, of Juliette, Georgia; a step-daughter, Elaine Cardoza and husband, Teddy, of Gallatin, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jessica Terry, Steven Terry, Christopher Chitwood, and Mischa Claiborne; step-grandchildren, Jason Martin, Randy Martin, Nicholas Martin, Chase Cardoza, Brynn Martin, Kinzy Cardoza, Rachel Martin, and Caden Cardoza; 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Chitwood and wife, Mildred, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and a sister, Louverna Denny, of Science Hill, Kentucky, and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

582f8050a39ddFoster Lee Crabtree, age 71, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed from this life on Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

Born March 8, 1945, at Dean, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Jess and Evelyn (Cordell) Crabtree.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Betty (Odom) Crabtree, a sister, Reba Faye Keith and a brother Charles Marvin Crabtree.

Surviving family include three daughters: Sherry Lynn Crabtree (and Mike Stigall) of Bronston, Kentucky, Melissa Lee Spradlin (and Brian), of Whitley City, Nikki Dawn Perry (and Bandon) of Whitley City, two sons: Foster Curtis Crabtree (and Nikki) of Pine Knot, and Johnathan Lee Crabtree of Wisconsin, two brothers: Lewis Dean Crabtree of Oregon and Bobby Bishop (and Susie) of Erlanger, Kentucky, and a sister-in-law, Verna Crabtree of Strunk.  He has 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Foster was a truck driver for Oneida Columbus Express and he loved trucking.  He enjoyed fishing, dancing and listening to old country Gospel music.  He was a member of the City of Refuge Church and attended Quest Community Services.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. Landon Sexton and Bro. Steve Stephens officiating.  Special music was by Steve Stephens and Israel Clark.  He was laid to rest at the Pine Knot Cemetery.

armin-ballouArmin “Rod” Tuney Ballou age 86 years, 7 months, and 9 days of Stearns, Kentucky passed away at his home.

Private graveside services were held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Mill Creek Cemetery.

He was born March 31, 1930 in Parkers Lake, Kentucky to Frank Ballou and Pearl (Owens) Ballou. Armin retired from the CSX Railway as a conductor and engineer. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War. Armin was also a 60 year Master Mason and member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and was an excellent marksman.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and sisters, Vella Ballou Herman and Juanita Ballou.

Mr. Ballou is survived by his wife, Sueann Ballou, and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the McCreary County Christian Care Center.

Ada S. Jones age 95 years, 7 months, and 18 days, of Stearns, Kentucky passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 in at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Wayne Inman officiating. Burial followed in the Angel Cemetery.   James, Perry, Tony Perry, Fred Jones, Edward Morgan, Chris Perry, Andrew Bruce, Mike Strunk, Geoff Bruce, Wayne Jones, B J Bruce and Ryan Bruce served as pallbearers.

She was born March 25, 1921 in McCreary County, Kentucky to Everett and Lula (Chitwood) Inman.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Rock United Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing and caring for her family.

Preceding her in death are parents; husband, Johnie Jones; son, Oscar Jones; daughter, Phyllis Jones; 4 brothers; and 4 sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Clarence Jones and wife, Shelia of Oneida, Tennessee, Arnold Jones and wife Sue of Williamsburg, Kentucky, and Lawrence Jones of Stearns, Kentucky; daughters, Imogene Perry of Weatherford, Texas, Ella Mae Matthews and husband, Cecil and Pat Strunk and husband, Dale, both of Stearns, Kentucky, and Judy Morgan and Karen Bruce both of Whitley City, Kentucky; 20 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 8:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie King and Bro. Tim Stephens officiating. Graveside services were held on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Mill Springs National Cemetery with full Military Honors.

He was born July 31, 1935 in Science Hill, Kentucky to James Rector and June (Flanary) Rector. Jim was a member of the Dunedin First Baptist Church in Dunedin, Florida.  He retired from the United States Marines after devoting 20 years as a Air Traffic Controller . After his retirement from the military he began working for the United States Postal Service in 1993 as a route carrier and retired in 2006. Jim had many hobbies such as golfing, watching westerns, reading western novels, and watching UK sports. Jim was a skilled athlete who enjoyed helping others reach their full potential. He also enjoyed keeping stats for the McCreary Central Athletic Department as a hobby. Jim will always be remember for his kindness and unique personality that everyone loved dearly.

Preceding him in death are his parents, and son, Ralph Michael Rector.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy (Perkins) Rector whom he married, October 18, 1967; daughters, Dana Rector West and husband, Adam, of Whitley City, Jamie Rector Young, also of Whitley City, and Shawn Rector Kelley and husband, Bob, of Rosswell, Georgia; a brother, Donald Freeman, of Knoxville, Tennessee; a sister, Phyllis Helton of Dunedin, Florida; grandchildren, Ryan West, Lilly Young, Austin McLean, Parker McLean, and Hadley McLean.

Mary J. Snowden, age 87, of Versailles, Kentucky passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 in Whitley City, Kentucky.

She was born September 4, 1929 in Bath County, Kentucky to Frank C. Hart and Margaret Frances May Hart.  Mary has been an elementary school teacher before her retirement and had continued as a substitute teacher after she retired.  She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday School teach and was active in the Silver Sneakers group.  Mary loved to play bridge and golf and enjoyed travelling, especially to the beach.  She had been very active in charity work with the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Association, the local food bank, Relay for Life and Feed the Hungry.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, John A. Snowden.

Survivors include a son, John A. Snowden, III and his wife, Paula, of Dayton, Ohio, a daughter, Monica Lawson, and her husband, Terry, of Whitley City, Kentucky, five grandchildren, Brianna Lawson, John. A. Snowden IV, Amanda Snowden, Colby Lawson and his wife, Hannah, and Zachary Lawson and his wife, Holly, and a great grandson, Cooper Lawson.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

roger-stephensRoger Allen Stephens age 68 years, 6 months, and 14 days of Whitley City, Kentucky passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Kenny McKinney and Bro. Brent Ford officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Gordon Stephens, Kenny McKinney, David Stephens, Macy Winchester, Aaron Stephens, Steve Stephens, Tom Stringer, and Noah Stephens.

He was born April 23, 1948 in Whitley City, Kentucky to Raymond Stephens and Opal (Garland) Stephens. Roger was a member of the Emmanuel Fellowship Church and was the former sheriff of McCreary County from 1990 until 1994. Roger had many hobbies and interests such as painting, working on classic cars, and playing music. In time past, Roger was a Ham Radio Operator, had played music professionally, having travelled with a number of major artists, was the first drummer to play the Renfro Valley Barn Dance, and a member of The Uptown Opry. Roger was also known in the community for his radiator shop, where he enjoyed tinkering with cars and helping others. Although Roger spent a lot of his personal time helping others, his heart was at home with his family. He was a family man who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Bill Stephens, R.L. Stephens, and Edd Stephens; and a sister, MaryAnn Stephens.

Survivors include his wife, Doris (Kidd) Stephens whom he married, May 25, 1968; a son, Gordon Stephens of Monticello; daughters, Michelle Winchester and husband, Macy, Angie Stringer and husband, Tom, Christal Stephens and husband, David, all of Somerset, and Heather McKinney and husband, Kenny, of Strunk; brothers, Mike Stephens and wife, Paula, of Whitley City, and Mark Stephens and wife, Margaret of Monticello; sisters, Carol Creekmore and husband, Gary, of Whitley City, Brenda Martin and husband, Bill of Pine Knot, and Marilyn Hansford and husband, Harold, of Marshes Siding; grandchildren, Riley and Sawyer Winchester, Aleasha and Ashlea Stringer, Amanda West, Jessica, Aaron, and Noah Stephens, Abby and Chase Perry, and Carson and Maddox McKinney; and great-grandchildren, Adison Frost and Cameron Worley.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his Mother Reda Brewster; aunts: Jessie Mae Lawson, Anna Lou Posey, Norma Jean Lawson, and Nina June Carroll; uncles: Floyd Brewster and Lloyd Brewster; great uncle Chester Brewster; grandparents: Claude and Adele Brewster.

Kip is survived by his Wife Sheila Brewster; children: Kip Ellis and Kevin Randall Brewster; step-children: Eric Murphy, Alwitt Poter, and Wesley Murphy; brother: James Brewster (Buddy); and a really good friend Dewayne Taylor; aunts: Shirley Day and Sue Brewster; uncle: Charles Brewster.

Funeral service were held November 7, 2016. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Duncan officiating.

Interment will followed in the Hazel Valley Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

He was born on February 14, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Carl Lee Kidd and JoAnn Sellars Perry.  Gary is preceded in death by his father.

Surviving family include his mother JoAnn Perry, of Whitley City, three brothers: Trent Derwin Kidd and wife Tonie of Pine Knot, Ricky Lee Kidd and wife Jewell of Pine Knot, and Jeffery Wynn Kidd of Strunk, Kentucky, and one sister Carla Reeves and husband Dale of Bowling Green.

Gary had worked as a chef and at Wal-Mart in the paint department for 10 years. He enjoyed being a chef at the Eagles Nest Country Club, gardening, and working in the yard and flowers. Gary was a member at the Bethel Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 6, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Ridener officiating.  He will be laid to rest at the Bethel Cemetery.

He was born December 2, 1955 in Jellico, Tennessee to Myrtle Imogene (King) Meadors. Jesse was of the Christian Faith and had worked as a metal finisher. He enjoyed his family especially, his grandchildren, and working on antique cars.

Preceding him in death are mother; and brother, Danny King.

Survivors include his wife, Lana (Schluttenhofer) King; sons, Jesse William King II and wife Cari Lynn of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Brian Joseph King and wife, Melissa of Stearns, Kentucky, Coty Joseph King and Cory Michael King and wife, Sydney Ball both of Pine Knot, Kentucky; daughter, Jennifer Willey and husband, Pete of Lynchburg, Ohio; brothers, Marshall King of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Ed Meadors and wife, Jess of Somerset, Kentucky, and Michael Meadors and wife, Bernice of Monticello, Kentucky; sisters, Katherine Gilreath and husband, Richard and Donna Meadors both of Pine Knot, Kentucky; and 6 grandchildren.

He was born September 4, 1960, at Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Robert Lee and Inez (Duncan) Mason.  He is also preceded in death by his wife, Millie Ann (Jones) Mason.

He is survived by two daughters: Terri Lee Mason of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, and Carrie Mason of Pine Knot, Kentucky, four grandchildren: Nathin and Devin Pierce and Jerrod and Brooklynn Spradlin, three brothers: James “Jim” Donald Mason (wife Ester) of New Castle, Indiana, Terry Mason (wife Mona) of Whitley City, and Michael Douglas Mason (wife Tammy) of Robbins, Tennessee, and two sisters: Bobbie Lee Bell (husband Ray) of New Castle, Indiana, and Flora Rachel Dixon (and Tony Hurd) of Parkers Lake, Kentucky.

David was disabled but had previously worked in the mills and had worked for the U.S. Forest Service.  He enjoyed hunting, working with knives and doing leather work. He mostly loved spending time with his grandbabies.

janet-meffordJanet Marie Brown Mefford, 72, of Huber Heights, Ohio, formerly of Stearns, passed away October 27, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton.

Janet was born February 26, 1944 to John Lawrence Brown and Vina Jane Foster Brown of Stearns, Kentucky.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Mefford, a son, Private William Anthony Long, her mother and father, two sisters, Betty Lee Brown and Burma Joyce Stephens, and a brother, Lawrence Randall Brown.  Survivors include  a son, Monty Mefford, a daughter, Shanda Jean Mefford, two granddaughters, Cheyenne Destiny (Angel) Mefford and Vina Marie (Sweet Pea) Mefford, all of Huber Heights, Ohio, brothers, Billy Joe Brown of Harriman, Tennessee and Tommy Reed Brown and his wife, Sharon, of Stearns, Kentucky, sisters, Shanda Ann Clark of Whitley City, Kentucky, Pat Roaden and her husband, Ralph, of Corbin, Kentucky, Brenda Sue Stanchfield and her husband, Wayne, of Stearns, Kentucky, and Pamela Jane Douglas and her husband, Don, of Whitley City, Kentucky, and a host of nieces and nephews.  Janet was loved by all.

Janet’s hobbies were needle point and embroidery at her Huber Heights, Ohio home of some 50+ years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and her special pet dog, Casper.  She was a member of the Huber Heights Baptist Temple and lived a Christian life as a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all.  She was saved and baptized at the Second Baptist Church of Whitley City.

Janet graduated from McCreary County High School and from Wright State obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education.  She worked as an Aid, Substitute Teacher, and Tutor.  Earlier she served as hostess at Frishes and Waffle House; she also worked when able for Meijers during dialysis and eventually kidney transplant in 2001; after many procedures and setbacks over the years she succumbed to renal failure and complications.

In accordance to her wishes, Janet was cremated and a Celebration of her life will be on November 12, 2016 at the Huber Heights Baptist Temple.

We will miss her smile and jovial countenance.

She was born in Scott County, Tennessee, on August 24, 1958, the daughter of Earnest and Irene (Strunk) Crabtree.  Her father precedes her in death.  Surviving family includes her mother, Irene Crabtree of Pine Knot, her husband James L. Stephens whom she married August 25, 1976, their daughter, Jamie Lynn Wagers (husband Shawn) of Manchester, Kentucky, and children: Mahala Renea Stephens, Amber Kathleen Stephens, John Mark Stephens, Lucas Isaiah Stephens, and James Michael Stephens, two grandchildren: Katelynn Grace Wagers and Gabriel Thomas Willard Wagers, two brothers: Gary Crabtree (wife Peggy Jane) of Winfield, Tennessee and Terry Wade Crabtree (wife Mary Rose) of Strunk, Kentucky, and two sisters: Helen Bowlin of Huntsville, Tennessee, and Wendy Duncan (husband Rob) of Stearns.

Debbie had worked as a clerk for the cable service and later owned and managed Stephens Mini Mart and Deli in Pine Knot.  She was a member of the Revelo Church of God.  She was a devoted mother and was dedicated to raising her family of whom she was most pleased

Roger Stephens age 68, husband of Doris (Kidd) Stephens, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Pine Knot Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday after 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

He was born on December 4, 1962, in Oneida, Tennessee, the son of Dillard Strunk and Billie Jean (Hamlin) Strunk. Steve is preceded in death by his parents and brother Carson Edward Brooks.

Surviving family includes his sister Anna Hamilton and husband Roger of Sawyer, Kentucky, four brothers James Ralph Brooks and wife Myrtle of Parkers Lake, Kentucky,

Gary Lee Strunk and wife Sandy of Wilmore, Kentucky, Dale Strunk of Whitley City, and Ronnie Strunk of Pine Knot.

Steve worked for Weaver Sawing and Sealing in Williamsburg, Kentucky. He enjoyed such things in life like fishing, hunting, and the greatest of all was kids.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 7, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Ridener officiating.  He was laid to rest at the Barren Fork Cemetery in Whitley City, Kentucky.

She was born in Pine Knot, Kentucky, on February 21, 1944, daughter of the late Ezra and Dora King Slaven.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Thompson whom she was married to for 53 years. Joyce is also preceded in death by her brother: Lenville Slaven and seven sisters: Bernice Daughtery, Arlene Chitwood, Martha King and four infant sisters.

Surviving family include her daughters: Jennifer Thompson of Kissimee, FL, Teresa Campbell and husband John of Cincinnati, Ohio, sons: Ricky L. Thompson and wife Julie of Cincinnati, Ohio, Scotty Thompson of West Chester, Ohio, brother: Anthony and wife Sheila Slaven of Strunk, Kentucky, sister: Betty Dixon of Pine Knot, Kentucky, four grandchildren: Troy Thompson, Tara Thompson, Johnny Campbell and Nicholas Campbell, one great grandchild: Lydia Campbell.

Joyce was of the Baptist Faith, and a charter member of Gloryland Way Missionary Baptist Church.  She was employed by JC Penny/Wal-Mart in Logistics and as a sales clerk.  She was an avid reader who also enjoyed her flower garden, watching western TV shows and spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral Services: Friday, November 11, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Harley Duncan and Ronnie Roberts officiating.

Visitation: Friday, November 11, 2016 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the funeral home.

She was born in Sawyer, Kentucky, on February 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Etta (Rose) Campbell.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Lloyd Campbell, James Campbell, Floyd Campbell, Lincoln Campbell, Tommy Campbell, Elmer Campbell and Delmer Campbell.

Surviving family include her sister, Frances Perry of Parkers Lake, and two very special nieces: Rita Strunk of Whitley City and Lana Sumner of Parkers Lake along with numerous other nieces and nephews.

Irene was of the Baptist Faith and a Certified Nursing Assistant at Brent Haven Nursing Home for many years and dearly loved her job.  She loved spending time with children and loved her many cats and dogs.

Grave Side Services were Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Taylor Cemetery with Bro. Daniel Perry Officiating with burial to follow.

581637c92a112Roger Sterling Collins, age 54, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016, at his home in Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Roger had been a painter having worked for himself. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Billy Sterling and Willa Mae (Lay) Collins on July 12, 1962. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ricky Lynn Collins and a sister Kimberly Collins.

Surviving family include his two brothers Rodney Collins and wife Jacqueline of Somerset, Kentucky, and Mike Collins and wife Tracey of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a sister Caroline Murphy of Pine Knot. He leaves behind many nephews and nieces.

Roger choose cremation for his final disposition, and a private ceremony will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to help the family with funeral expenses.

Burial followed in the Nevelsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Shane Gibson, Darren Corder, Dusty Lay, Aaron Jones, Garredd Corder, James Lay, and Brad Corder.

She was born March 2, 1931 in Paint Cliff, Kentucky to Herman Clark and Vina (Hickman) Clark.  After the death of Vina, Betty was raised by Ruben and Sadie Jackson.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Rock United Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death are parents; husband, Virgil Corder; and son, Jerry Corder..

Survivors include her sons, Darrell Corder and wife, Joy of Whitley City, Kentucky, Hobert Corder and wife, Mary Lou and James Corder and wife, Debbie both of Stearns, Kentucky, Thomas Corder and wife, Angela of Somerset, Kentucky and Kelly Corder of Stearns, Kentucky; daughters, Wanda Vanover and husband Doug, and Melissa “Lisa” Corder both of Whitley City, Kentucky; brother, James Foster of Sidney, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Louis Norvel and Corrine Angetha (Dotson) Snead on October 15, 1957. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Debra Sizemore and two infant siblings.

Surviving family include her son Tony Snead and wife Angalissa of Knoxville, Tennessee, a daughter Kristy Snead of Whitley City, Faith Sizemore a niece whom she treated as a daughter after the death of her sister, three brothers Mark, David, and Danny Snead, and three sisters Linda Staten, Lisa Snead, and Shawn Johnson, five grandchildren Javonte Robertson, Destiny Robertson, Debra Sizemore, Benjamin Musgrove, and Bethany Musgrove. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces.

Vickie was a homemaker, she enjoyed bingo, Farmville, scary movies, family, and enjoyed seeing her children being family.

She was born on July 26, 1956, at Jellico, Tennessee, the daughter of Maerene (Meadows) Baird and the late Renfro Baird.  Besides her father, she is preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Shoopman and a granddaughter, Miley King.

Surviving family include her husband, Gary Hammons of Pine Knot, two sons: Dustin Wade King (and Michelle) of Winfield, Tennessee, Shaun King (and Ashley) of Frankfort, Kentucky, a step-son: Gary Hammons, a step-daughter: Crystal Hammons, a sister, Beverly Musgrove (and Richard) of Pine Knot, two brothers: Eddie Baird (and Brenda) of Jellico Creek, Kentucky, and Benny Baird (and Jewell) of Pine Knot, four grandchildren: Addy Sexton, Holston King Jack King, and Drew King, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilma was a homemaker and attended the South Pine Knot Church of God.  She enjoyed listening to country music and watching Kentucky Basketball.  She loved playing with her grand-babies and spending time with family.  She did everything she could to see that people were happy and that they were well taken care of.  May the work she has done speak for her, for a beautiful woman has a beautiful heart.

David Loren Mason, age 56, passed away Monday, October 31, 2016, at his home in Whitley City, Kentucky.

He was born September 4, 1960, at Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Robert Lee and Inez (Duncan) Mason.  He is also preceded in death by his wife, Millie Ann (Jones) Mason.

He is survived by two daughters: Terri Lee Mason of Marshes Siding, Kentucky, and Carrie Mason of Pine Knot, Kentucky, four grandchildren: Nathin and Devin Pierce and Jerrod and Brooklynn Spradlin, three brothers: James “Jim” Donald Mason (wife Ester) of New Castle, Indiana, Terry Mason (wife Mona) of Whitley City, and Michael Douglas Mason (wife Tammy) of Robbins, Tennessee, and two sisters: Bobbie Lee Bell (husband Ray) of New Castle, Indiana, and Flora Rachel Dixon (and Tony Hurd) of Parkers Lake, Kentucky.

David was disabled but had previously worked in the mills and had worked for the U.S. Forest Service.  He enjoyed hunting, working with knives and doing leather work. He mostly loved spending time with his grandbabies.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with burial to follow at the McCreary Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time for services at the funeral home.

mcfeeters-james-picJames Leroy McFeeters, age 67, of Faubush, Kentucky, passed to his rest on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Somerset, Kentucky.

James was born August 26, 1949, in National City, California, to Paul Cornelius McFeeters and the late Helen Marie Emley McFeeters. He married Catherine Marie Taylor on December 20, 1981. Always fascinated by science, astronomy, technology, and the outdoor world, James was an excellent craftsman from an early age. He designed and built his own telescope as a teenager, crafted his own furniture, pens, bowls, and other wooden items, and even made a wooden cedar strip canoe, which became his pride and joy. Education was important to him. He held a private pilot’s license and earned his masters’ degree in Computer Science. He spent the last 19 years of his 37-year teaching career at Somerset Community College. James was a member of the Somerset Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he was a church elder and a Pathfinder Club director.

He is survived by his father, Paul McFeeters of Loma Linda, California; his wife, Catherine McFeeters of Faubush, Kentucky; three sons, Daniel McFeeters (and wife Kristina) of Whitley City, Kentucky, Timothy McFeeters of South Bend, Indiana, and Andrew McFeeters, of Seale, Alabama; a sister, Sharon Mackin, of Chico, California; a brother, Dr. Gary McFeeters, of San Diego, California, nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Marie Emley McFeeters, and by his first wife, Ardi LeDuc McFeeters.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 3, from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Somerset Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 3 at 6:00 pm at the Somerset Seventh-day Adventist Church, with Pastor Samuel Solér officiating. Interment will take place at the Southern Oaks Cemetery.

Beulah was born in the Honeybee, KY community on November 9, 1926 to the late Noah and Ida Perry Vanover.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Mundt; 4 brothers: Thurman, Harmon, Herstel, and Othel Vanover; 2 sisters:  Hazel and Ruth Vanover; as well as the late Jim McKee and Willie Gettings for whom she was a caregiver.

Beulah was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fairdale, KY for 38 years and retired as a Registered Nurse from Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.

She is survived by her nephews, The Rev. Jimmie Vanover and Clarence Vanover; nieces, Ruby Goodin, Fay Perkins, and Ruth Noel.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from the Chapel of Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home in Brandenburg, KY with burial to following at Cap Anderson Cemetery.

He was born on June 10, 1946, at Newcomb, Tennessee, to the late George and Clora (Creekmore) Neal.  Besides his parent, he is preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Neal, three half brothers: Theodore Lay, Leamon Neal and Oscar Neal, and two half sisters: Nola Mae Wortham and Sadie Ryan.

Surviving family includes his wife, Nina (Litton) Neal of Pine Knot, two sons: James Daniel Neal, Jr. (J.R.) (and Debbie) of Pine Knot, and Greg Allen Neal (and Tonya) of Pine Knot, nine grandchildren: Jason Stephens, Marka Perry, John Neal, Josh Neal, Rusty Neal, Chasity Matthews, Halie Neal, Hannah Neal and K.J. Neal, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.  There are two surviving brothers: George Neal and Luther Neal (wife Lola), a sister, Mary Meadows and two half-sisters: Essie King and Gladys Bolton.

James had worked as a carpenter and enjoyed making gunstocks.  He enjoyed working as well as hunting and fishing and having fish frys.  He took great pleasure in the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren, their children and the babies.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 30, 2016, in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with Rev. William Kilby officiating.  He will be laid to rest at the Hayes Creek Cemetery.

She was born September 23, 1948 in Indianapolis, IN to parents Garvin Guy Sexton & Elsie Rusher-Sexton.  Regina is survived by her son, Doug Patterson II of Gosport, IN; daughters, Lisa (James) Wood of Indianapolis, Yolanda (David) Schrowe of New Palestine, IN; sister, Yolanda Barton of Indianapolis; brother, Earl Sexton of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Megan Elmore-Cox, Hillary Selig-Wood, Shelby Selig-Wood, William Wood, Doug Patterson III, Hunter Wood, Dawson Schrowe, Drake Patterson, Sheridan Schrowe and Luke Patterson; great grandchildren, Branson Cox, Aila Cox, Silas Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Leslie Douglas Patterson.
