Give blood, be a Holiday Hero

The need for blood doesn’t take a holiday, especially in December. That’s when blood donations can decline due to travel and other holiday activities that keep many regular donors away. However, cancer treatments, premature births, car accidents, blood diseases and surgeries continue. That’s why Kentucky Blood Center is inviting Kentuckians to roll up their sleeves, donate blood and be a Holiday Hero to a Kentucky patient this month.

Here’s a convenient opportunity to give your gift of life:

McCreary County Community

Wed., Dec. 21 from 1 – 6 pm

at the RECC in the Community Room at

51 Center Avenue in Whitley City

All donors will receive a $10 Walmart Gift Card!

To schedule your life-saving appointment or to get more information, call 800.775-2522, ext. 3758. As always, walk-ins are also welcome.

Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo 1.0. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.

Founded nearly 50 years ago, KBC is the largest independent, full-service, non-profit blood center in Kentucky. Licensed by the FDA, KBC’s sole purpose is to collect, process and distribute blood for patients in Kentucky hospitals.
