Plant Orders
The McCreary County Extension Office is taking order for the following plants.
STRAWBERRY PLANTS
The price will be $16.00 per 100 plants. Plants can be ordered in lots of 25. Order by Thursday, February 23rd. Plants will not be shipped till early April. Varieties are Earliglow and Allstar.
Earliglow- early season, medium in size, very good productiveness, and very good freezer rating.
Allstar – mid to late season, large size, very good productiveness, good freezer rating.
BLUEBERRY PLANTS
Blue Berry Plants available for a cost of $8.00 each. There are two varieties available: Patriot and Blue Crop, you need to order the same number of each for pollination.
Patriot: Patriot is an early. This variety is vigorous and grows upright to a height of 4 to 6 feet. Patriot adapts to many different soil types. The fruit is large and has very good flavor.
Blue Crop: The leading commercial blueberry variety grown. It produces high yields of large, bright blue berries that are firm and grow in large clusters. The berry flavor is superb, fresh or frozen. Bluecrop is known for its hardiness, vigor and consistent production. The plant grows to a height of 4-6 feet.
BLACKBERRY PLANTS
The only variety offered is Natchez at a cost of $5.00 each.
Description: Is a recent release from the University of Arkansas breeding program. This is the earliest ripening thornless variety with very high production potentials. Very large and good tasting berries can be harvested during a 3-5 week season. Due to its semi-erect growth habit, Natchez performs best with a trellis.
RASPBERRY PLANTS
Two varieties are available.
Red Raspberry: TulaMagic® raspberry is a summer variety which can also produce a late fall crop. For the summer crop. TulaMagic® is very vigorous and shows low susceptibility to Phytophthora root rot disease. Fruits are large and have good firmness with an attractive light red color. Flavor is rated very good with high raspberry aroma.
Black Raspberry: Bristol is an heirloom quality variety. It is a high-producing early variety whose upright growth and cluster formation make its berries very easy to pick. It has medium, firm, glossy fruit with the best black raspberry flavor. Moderately hardy but very vigorous.
