Sheriff investigating thefts
Sheriff Randy Waters said his department is investigating a Sunday night break in at the Cell Guys store in Whitley City, where it appeared one or two individuals broke in to the shop to steal merchandise.
Security camera footage shows an individual wearing a hoodie smash open a glass door and make entry around 11:55 pm. Sunday night. The individual proceeded to grab several cell phones before exiting.
Later, at around 1:28 p.m. the subject, or possibly a second individual, returned to grab more merchandise. About five phones were reported stolen.
This was at least the third robbery attempt in the past month, and Sheriff Waters said his department is pursuing leads in all cases.
Less than two weeks ago a subject wearing a hoodie reportedly attempted to rob the Dollar General Store in Pine Knot, but was unable to gain access.
On July 5th a subject brandishing a gun robbed the Fastway convenience store while wearing a similar outfit.
Sheriff Waters said he does not believe the cases are related, but asks anyone with information to contact his office, the Kentucky State Police or McCreary County 911.
