Lady Raiders to start campaign at Jellico, TN

McCreary Central to host annual invitational Aug. 19

STEARNS – The McCreary Central Raiders will start the 2017 season on the road at Jellico, Tenn. McCreary Central is slated to visit Jellico for a season opener on Monday, Aug. 14.

The Raiders, under the guidance of Coach Wade Davis, have made strides throughout the preseason.

McCreary Central will host its annual invitational tournament on Saturday, Aug. 19. In addition to the host team, the McCreary Central Invitational is slated to include Berea, Estill County and Clinton County.

McCreary Central’s 2017 schedule features additional matches versus Lynn Camp, Southwestern, Cumberland County, Russell County, East Jessamine, Lincoln County, Williamsburg, Wayne County, Bell County, and Barbourville.

McCreary Central ended the 2016 season 11-24. The Raiders lost to Wayne County in the opening round of the 48th District Volleyball Tournament at Southwestern. Wayne County shut out McCreary Central 3-0 in the 2016 48th District Volleyball Tournament.

McCreary Central, however, returns several experienced players from the 2016 season.

Southwestern is the defending 48th District champion. The Warriors shut out Wayne County 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) in the 2016 48th District championship match.

West Jessamine is the reigning 12th Region champion. The Colts defeated Pulaski County 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 25-12) in the 2016 12th Region title tilt.

The final 2016 12th Region volleyball records shaped up as follows: West Jessamine, 31-9; Pulaski County, 25-5; Boyle County, 18-19; Lincoln County, 17-15; Southwestern, 17-18; Casey County, 16-10; Rockcastle County, 16-20; Mercer County, 14-18; Wayne County, 13-19; Somerset, 12-14; McCreary Central, 11-24; Garrard County, 8-22; Danville, 5-21; Burgin, 3-16; East Jessamine, 2-30; Kentucky School for the Deaf, 1-16.
