McCreary Central ladies to visit Clinton County for season’s first game

STEARNS – The McCreary Central girls’ soccer team is headed into its season opener versus Clinton County. On Thursday, McCreary Central will visit Clinton County for a non-district match.

The Raiders will look to show improvement early in the 2017 girls’ high school soccer season. McCreary Central ended the 2016 season 3-17 following a loss to familiar opponent Pulaski County in the opening round of the 47th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament.

The Raiders compete with Pulaski County, Somerset and Casey County in the 47th District. Pulaski County is the defending 47th District champion. The Lady Maroons blanked rival Somerset 7-0 in the 2016 47th District girls’ soccer title match.

During the 2016 season, McCreary Central swept a two-game regular-season series from Knox Central and defeated Clinton County once. McCreary Central exited the 2016 season on a 12-game losing streak.

Opponents from multiple regions and neighboring Tennessee fill McCreary Central’s 2017 schedule.

The Raiders’ 2017 schedule breaks down as follows: Aug. 17 at Clinton County; Aug. 19 at Somerset; Aug,. 21 at Knox Central; Aug. 22 at Bell County; Aug. 24 vs. Scott (Huntsville), Tenn.; Aug. 26 Whitley County; Aug. 28 at Pulaski County; Aug. 31 Casey County; Sept. 2 Somerset; Sept. 4 Knox Central; Sept. 8 Clinton County; Sept. 9 at Lincoln County; Sept. 12 Bell County; Sept. 14 at Casey County; Sept. 18 at Whitley County; Sept. 19 Pulaski County; Sept. 21 Middlesboro; Sept. 25 Garrard County; Sept. 28 at Southwestern.

The Raiders are under the direction of head coach Jennifer Stogsdill.
