Playing on the road in a season opener didn’t phase the McCreary Central Lady Raiders. The Lady Raiders defeated Fourth Region member Clinton County 4-1 in a girls’ high school soccer season opener on Thursday, Aug. 17.
McCreary Central opened the 2017 season 1-0 while Clinton County started the new campaign 0-1.
MaKenzi Cox led McCreary Central to the win, scoring two goals for the Lady Raiders. Cox worked her way past Clinton County defensive pressure on multiple McCreary Central possessions.
Joining Cox in the McCreary Central scoring column, Rylie King and Molly Phillips delivered one goal apiece for the winning team.
McCreary Central Coach Jennifer Stogsdill was pleased with her team’s performance in the season-opening game, especially defensively.
“Our defensive did a great job at holding them off,” Stogsdill commented, following her team’s victory in its season opener.
McCreary Central competes in the 47th District and 12th Region.
The Lady Raiders are scheduled to host Clinton County for a game on Sept. 8.
