Christmas Parade Tentatively Planned

Following disappointment and public outcry over cancellation of the annual fall parade in downtown Whitley City, residents and tourists may be able to look forward to the rebirth of the local Christmas parade.

McCreary County Tourism Administrative Assistant Cristy Hill said after being approached by several people hoping to see a local parade reestablished, the McCreary County Tourism Commission has agreed to help facilitate a local Christmas parade if 25 parade entries are received.

A tentative date for the parade has been set for Friday evening on December 15 with an alternative rain date still to be set.

Hill noted that a social media post regarding the possibility of a parade had already been shared 140 times. Nine entries for the parade have already been received.

Interested parties wishing to register for the parade or receive more information may call the McCreary County Tourism Office at 376-3008 or stop by the office on Geary Street in Whitley City from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
