Raiders defeat Fort Knox, notch first win

McCreary Central preparing to host Paul Laurence Dunbar

McCreary Central worked its way into the win column on Friday night, defeating host Fort Knox 63-30 in a non-district high school football game.

With the win, McCreary Central improved to 1-2.

Fort Knox dropped to 0-4 with the loss.

The Raiders, under the direction of head coach Lucas Ford, prevailed after dropping back-to-back games to Perry County Central and South Laurel. McCreary Central had managed to score 64 points in both of its previous games combined.

Perry County Central outlasted the Raiders 64-58 in four overtimes in a season opener on Aug. 18.

Then, one week later, South Laurel pulled away to defeat McCreary Central 42-6.

The Raiders had an extra week to prepare for Fort Knox after having the week of Friday, Sept. 1 open.

Statistics for the McCreary Central-Fort Knox football game were unavailable at press time.

Looking ahead: McCreary Central has regular-season games remaining versus Paul Laurence Dunbar, Bell County, Corbin, Casey County, Jackson County and Lynn Camp. The Raiders will host Paul Laurence Dunbar on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Paul Laurence Dunbar is 0-3. The Bulldogs have suffered shutout losses to Southwestern, George Rogers Clark and crosstown rival Tates Creek.

Southwestern shut out Paul Laurence Dunbar 50-0 in a season opener on Aug. 25.

Following the season opener, George Rogers Clark downed Paul Laurence Dunbar 17-0 on Aug. 31.

Tates Creek dealt Paul Laurence Dunbar its third straight loss on Friday night, blanking the Bulldogs 37-0.

Through three games, Paul Laurence Dunbar has amassed only 242 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs have allowed 928 yards, Three opponents have combined to rush for 747 yards versus the Bulldogs.

Defensively, Tyler Browning leads Paul Laurence Dunbar with a team-high 34 tackles.

The Bulldogs compete in Class 6A, District 7, which also features Scott County, Frederick Douglass, Henry Clay and Bryant Station. Paul Laurence Dunbar ended the 2016 season 3-8.
