Lady Raiders drops matches to Wayne, Jellico

After claiming two straight wins, the McCreary Central volleyball team dropped back-to-back matches over a five-day period.

In a battle of familiar foes, Wayne County shut out the Lady Raiders 3-0 in a 48th District volleyball match in Monticello on Thursday. Wayne County prevailed 25-23, 24-12, 25-9 over the Lady Raiders.

Jellico, a longtime rival from neighboring Tennessee, forced McCreary Central to remain in the loss column at the start of the week. Productive Jellico blanked the Lady Raiders 2-0 in another high school volleyball match, winning 25-15, 25-21.

McCreary Central isn’t scheduled to meet Wayne County nor Jellico again during the current campaign.

The Lady Raiders will look to build momentum and carry it over into the postseason. McCreary Central is slated to visit Lynn Camp for a regular-season finale on Oct. 5.

The Lady Raiders, under the direction of head coach Wade Davis, compete with Wayne County and Southwestern in the 48th District.
