Members of the McCreary County Cattlemen Association found the beef at Carjo Farm during a recent field day that included beefy burgers and brisket, corn hole, educational speakers and displays, door prizes, and beautiful weather. During the field day, members also seated Jr. Sumner, Joel Lester, and Marion Gilreath as board members for the organization. Pulaski County Extension Agent, T. J. Adkins spoke to members about calving seasons.

Since being formed in April 2015, the McCreary County Cattlemen Association has brought a new awareness of McCreary County cattle farmers by hosting regular educational programs with the McCreary Extension Service, organizing beef cattle field days at local farms, and offering farmers a chance to network with one another. Local members are also members of the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association (KCA) and receive a monthly newspaper called “Cow Country News.” They are also eligible to attend the annual educational KCA meeting and trade show and qualify for discounts at certain equipment dealers. With KY being the the largest cattle producing state east of the Mississippi and ranking fifth nationally, KCA is the unified voice for cattlemen in KY and promotes beef products. As one of ninety-nine KCA chapters in the state, McCreary County Cattlemen is led by local farmers.
