Raiders to host Danville for home opener

STEARNS – After opening the 2017-18 boys’ high school basketball season with back-to-back wins, McCreary Central will host Danville for its home opener on Friday night.

McCreary Central pulled away to defeat Rockcastle County 68-55 in a season opener on the road in Mount Vernon on November 28.

The Raiders, under the direction of head coach Jimmy Voight, remained in the win column earlier in the week, beating host Barbourville 81-66 on Tuesday night.

Danville is 0-2 after suffering back-to-back losses to Mercer County and West Jessamine. Mercer County defeated the Admirals 77-62 in Danville in a season opener for the host team on Nov. 30.

Danville came up short earlier in the week as West Jessamine prevailed 87-61 in Nicholasville on Tuesday night.

Multiple Admirals are returning to the hardwood from the gridiron following Danville’s victory over Mayfield in the Class 2A championship game at Kroger Field in Lexington Saturday. Danville defeated Mayfield 35-21 in the Class 2A championship game.

The Raiders are scheduled to visit Richmond for a game versus Beechwood at 3:30 p.m. in the Central Bank Heroes Classic on Saturday.

McCreary Central has games remaining in the month of December versus Garrard County, Somerset, Bell County, Russell County, Lincoln County, East Jessamine, Hazard, Leslie County and Middlesboro.

Tip-off for the McCreary Central-Danville boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
