Ride to raise awareness

Kylie Jo Sizemore was only four months old when she suffered severe injuries, including fractures to her skull, while in the care of a babysitter. Last year 34-year-old Erin Thompson was arrested in Richmond on assault and criminal abuse charges for her alleged crimes, but is still awaiting trial in the case.

Klyie’s parents, Joe and Natasha Sizemore, have spearheaded efforts to get a new law enacted, one that would require individuals convicted of child abuse to register just as a sexual predator would have to.

While that proposal for a new law is still going through the legislative process, a special event will be held locally this Saturday to help raise awareness for victims of child abuse, such as Kylie.

Darren Corder, whose daughter Ariean is half-sister to Kylie and was also in care of Thompson at the time of the abuse, is planning a benefit 4×4 trail ride to show support for Kylie and other children.

The event will begin on Saturday, December 9 at 10:30 at the Horseman’s arena in Strunk located just off East Marsh Creek Road. Riders will depart at 11:30, with a send off from the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office.
