Lady Raiders drop game to host South Laurel

LONDON – The McCreary Central Lady Raiders slipped back into the loss on the road earlier in the week. Host South Laurel defeated the Lady Raiders 70-31 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Monday night.
McCreary Central dropped to 2-4 with the loss.
With the win, South Laurel improved to 4-1.
McCreary Central shot 36.4 percent (12-of-33) from the field. The Lady Raiders were 5-of-15 (33.3 percent) from 3-point range.
McCreary Central was 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
The Lady Raiders fell behind early and were forced to play from behind throughout the matchup.
Lauryn Phillips was the only McCreary Central player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Phillips paced the Lady Raiders with 14 points.
Allyson Anderson narrowly missed reaching double figures for the Lady Raiders, netting nine points.
Julia King posted four points while Elizabeth Anderson and Macey Welchel chipped in two points apiece for the Lady Raiders.
South Laurel, a contender for the 13th Region title, shot 53.6 percent (30-of-56) from the field. The Lady Cardinals were 8-of-20 (40 percent) from 3-point range.
South Laurel finished 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
Owning an advantage inside, South Laurel outrebounded McCreary Central 24-13.
Ally Collett and Amerah Steele led South Laurel with 20 points apiece.
Accompanying Collett and Steele in double figures for the Lady Cardinals, Mariah Anders added 11 points.
McCreary Central and South Laurel aren’t scheduled to meet again during the current campaign.
