McCreary Central falls to Beechwood in Central Bank Heroes Classic

RICHMOND – The McCreary Central boys’ basketball team suffered its first loss in the 2017-18 season over the weekend. Beechwood, an opponent from the Ninth Region, managed to defeat the Raiders 58-53 in the Central

Bank Heroes Classic at Model on Saturday.

With the loss, McCreary Central dropped to 3-1.

Beechwood improved to 4-2 with the win.

McCreary Central was 18-of-46 from the field in the short effort. The Raiders were only 2-of-14 from 3-point range against the team from Northern Kentucky.

McCreary Central was 15-of-23 from the free throw line.

The Raiders committed 18 turnovers in the loss.

Derrick Paige paced McCreary Central with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Paige, who leads the Raiders in scoring thus far in the 2017-18 season, recorded one of two double-doubles for McCreary Central as Hunter Jones netted 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Joining Paige and Jones in double figures for the Raiders, Nick Longmire scored 11 points.

Scotty Draud led Beechwood with a game-high 23 points. Three Tigers reached double figures in the scoring column as Zach Deatherage tossed in 11 points and CJ Brannen netted 10 points.

Beechwood was 20-of-52 from the field in the winning effort. The Tigers were 3-of-18 from 3-point range.

Beechwood finished 15-of-22 from the free throw line.

The Tigers committed only nine turnovers.

Host Model, Lafayette, Berea and Sayre also claimed wins in the Central Bank Heroes Classic.

In the other games played in the Central Bank Heroes Classic it was Lafayette 84, Christian Academy-Louisville 58; Berea 72, Trimble County 55; Model 72, St,. Patrick 51 and Sayre 66, Garrard County 65 (2 OT).
