Jones leads McCreary Central past Lincoln County

STEARNS – McCreary Central finished 1-3 in the Arby’s Holiday Classic, an event it hosted prior to Christmas. The Raiders defeated Lincoln County but dropped games to Russell County, Somerset and East Jessamine in the pre-Christmas event.
Russell County 89, McCreary Central 81: Tate Richardson poured in a game-high 30 points and Devin Clark contributed 21 points as Russell County defeated host McCreary Central 89-81 in the opening round of the Arby’s Holiday Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Russell County, which shot 64.7 percent (33-of-51) from the field, featured four scorers in double figures. The Lakers were 8-of-16 beyond the arc and shot 75 percent (15-of-20) from the free throw line.
The Lakers managed to outrebound the Raiders 30-19.
Also excelling offensively, McCreary Central shot 57.6 percent (34-of-59) from the field.
Derrick Paige led McCreary Central with 28 points while Nick Longmire contributed 26 points for the Raiders.
McCreary Central featured three scorers in double figures as Hunter Jones posted 18 points.
Brandon Troxell (four points), John Cash (three points) and Trevor Strunk (two points) also landed in the McCreary Central scoring column.
McCreary Central 61, Lincoln County 57: Hunter Jones scored a game-high 21 points to lead McCreary Central past Lincoln County 61-57 in the second round of the Arby’s Holiday Classic on Thursday, Dec, 21.
Joining Jones in double figures for the Raiders, Hunter Jones netted 21 points.
Derrick Paige scored nine points, John Cash eight points, Brandon Troxell six points and Devin Strunk three points for the Raiders in the victory.
McCreary Central was 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) from 3-point range. The Raiders shot 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the free throw line.
Lincoln County slipped into the loss column after defeating Wayne County 61-57 in the first round of the Arby’s Holiday Classic.
Somerset 64, McCreary Central 49: Three Somerset players reached double figures in the scoring column as the Briar Jumpers beat tournament host McCreary Central 64-49 in the third round of the Arby’s Holiday Classic on Friday, Dec. 22.
Kross Grundy (18 points), Kade Grundy (16 points) and Jake Cothron (11 points), Trae Harrmon (10 rebounds, eight points) and Josh Cornett (eight points) were the leaders for Somerset in the win.
Derrick Paige paced McCreary Central with 14 points.
Nick Longmire was the only other McCreary Central player to reach double figures in the scoring column, netting 10 points.
Hunter Jones (eight points), Brandon Troxell (eight points), Devin Strunk (four points), John Cash (three points) and Caleb Cox (two points) added scoring for the Raiders in the loss.
East Jessamine 86, McCreary Central 82: East Jessamine dealt McCreary Central a loss in the final round of the Arby’s Holiday Classic, prevailing 86-82 over the Raiders on Saturday, Dec. 23.
Jacob Bradshaw scored a team-high 26 points for the Jaguars in the win.
Finishing directly behind Bradshaw in the East Jessamine scoring column, DeAnte Sanon netted 25 points,
The Jaguars were 9-of-16 from 3-point range and shot 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the free throw line.
Two Raiders reached double figures in the scoring column.
Derrick Paige paced McCreary Central with a game-high 31 points.
Accompanying Paige in double figures for McCreary Central, Nick Longmire posted 23 points.
Other scorers for McCreary Central in the loss were Hunter Jones (eight points), Devin Strunk (seven points), Brandon Troxell (five points), John Cash (three points), Tyler Strunk (three points) and Caleb Cox (two points).
