Raiders set to host Southwestern for district game

STEARNS – McCreary Central is slated to host Southwestern for a 48th District boys’ basketball game on Thursday night.
The Raiders are 6-10 overall and 0-1 in the 48th District.
The Warriors are 8-6 overall and 1-0 in the district.
Three McCreary Central players are averaging double figures in the scoring column through the Raiders’ first 16 games. Derrick Paige is leading McCreary Central in scoring with an 18.8 points per game average.
Hunter Jones is averaging 15.9 points per game for the Raiders.
Following Paige and Jones in double figures for McCreary Central, Nick Longmire is averaging 11.5 points per game.
Paige is nearly averaging a double-double. He also leads the Raiders inrebounding. The highly-productive Paige is averaging 8.6 rebounds per game thus far in the 2017-18 season.
McCreary Central has notched wins over Rockcastle County, Barbourville, Danville, Garrard County, Lincoln County and Middlesboro.
The Raiders have dropped back-to-back games and will enter the upcoming district matchup on a two-game losing skid.
Southwestern has posted wins in games against Casey County, Wayne County, Elliot County, Montgomery County, East Carter, Raceland, Morristown-Hamblen East (Tenn.) and Clay County.
Southwestern will enter the district game on a four-game losing streak.
Tip-off for for the McCreary Central-Southwestern boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
McCreary Central is slated to face Eastern in the Remy Grace Classic at East Jessamine High School on Saturday.
Tip-off for the McCreary Central-Eastern matchup is set for 1:30 p.m.
