New names in election filings

With less than one week to go before the filing deadline a flurry of hopeful candidates have thrown their hats in to the ring this past week.
In the Judge Executive race, J. Scott Barnett (R) has declared, making it a five-person race in the Primary between him, Jimmie “Bevo” Greene, Vicki Kidd, Michael (Mike) Neal and Mark Sewell. There is no incumbent in that race as of yet, as Judge Doug Stephens has stated repeatedly he does not intend to seek a third term. There is also not a Democrat candidate at this time.
Two new candidates have emerged in the District 1 Magistrate race as Teresa Bryant and Brent Marlow enter the field as Republicans and will face off with William “Bill” Hale on May 22. Incumbent Leroy “O.L.” Perry has not yet filed for re-election.
The District 2 Constable race has expanded on both sides of the isle with Jimmy Duncan registering to challenge Tyler Watkins, Josh Goodin and Brad Waters for the Republican nomination. Democrat Steven Cox has also filed and is unopposed in the Primary so far.
Prospective candidates have until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to officially file for the May 22 Primary. All candidates filing on that final day must be in County Clerk Eric Haynes’ office by 4:00 p.m. to be registered. Anyone not in the office by that time will not be considered for the Primary
