McCreary Central falls to Whitley County

McCreary Central slipped back into the loss column as visiting Whitley County pulled away to win 10-0 in an early-season high school softball game on Friday.

With the loss, McCreary Central dropped to 3-3.
Whitley County improved to 4-3 with the win.
The Lady Raiders were limited throughout the matchup. Dominant Whitley County managed to outhit McCreary Central 14-5.
Whitley County pitcher Lindsey Shope shut down McCreary Central, throwing a complete game shutout. Shope allowed five hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking zero.
Jaycie Monhollen helped to lead Whitley County to the victory by driving in four runs. She went 3-for-3 at the plate. Monhollen drove in runs on a single in the second inning, a double in the fourth frame and another double in the Lady Colonels’ fifth at-bat.
McCreary Central pitcher Macey Welchel took the loss. Welchel allowed 14 hits and 10 runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one.
Whitley County belted two home runs during the game. Shope and Kaitlyn Lawson each hit a home run for the Lady Colonels.
Whitley County collected 14 hits . Monhollen, Kaitlyn Lawson, Hannah Clear, Baylee Wilson and Sadie Wilson each racked up multiple hits for visiting Whitley County. The productive Monhollen, Clear and Lawson contributed three hits apiece to pace the Lady Colonels offensively.
Welchel led McCreary Central at the plate, providing two hits in three at-bats. Grace Jones, Cassie Walker and Abby Perry chipped in one hit apiece for the Lady Raiders.
The two teams combined to commit five errors. McCreary Central committed three errors in the setback.
