4-H Camp Season is Nearing

4-H camps are open to all Kentucky youth between the ages of 9 and 14. At 4-H Camp, young people learn independence and responsibility, have a lot of fun and make new friends.
Many exciting activities and adventures await campers. 4-H’ers can spend their days participating in pursuits such as swimming, canoeing, high and low ropes, archery, games, dances and nature hikes. These activities are a fun way to help young people learn new skills and develop a greater appreciation for the environment and wildlife.
Camper safety is a priority at 4-H Camp. All staff and volunteers are trained and undergo background checks prior to camp. Each camp has an on-site health care provider at all times to take care of campers’ needs.
There are four regional camps, all of which have been accredited since 2005 by the American Camp Association.
4-H’ers from McCreary County will attend Feltner Camp in London, KY from June 11th through June 14th. The total cost for camp this year is $215. The McCreary County Extension District Board has voted to cover $150 of the cost for the first 30 applications received. For those applicants, that leaves the cost being $65 per camper. $10 is due as a deposit to hold the student’s camping spot and is due with the application. $55 is due at the Mandatory Camp Orientation to be held on June 7th at 5:30 at the McCreary County Extension Office. A limited number of scholarship applications are available to cover the $55. Please stop in the McCreary County Extension Office for your copy. Camp applications, along with any scholarship applications are due by Friday, May 25th. Both campers and parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to attend the Camp Orientation on Thursday, June 7th at 5:30 p.m.
