Lady Raiders fall to Southwestern in district game

SOMERSET – McCreary Central fell short in a bid to notch its third straight win as host Southwestern prevailed 6-3 in a 48th District softball game on Thursday, April 19.
Southwestern pitcher Lille Turpin notched the win. Turpin surrendered three runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking zero.
McCreary Central pitcher Macey Welchel suffered the loss. Welchel surrendered six runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out six.
Each 48th District softball team managed to connect for nine hits. Gretchen Hines and Kaitlyn Gwin collected multiple hits each for the Lady Warriors. Hines led Southwestern’s offensive attack with three hits in four at-bats.
Southwestern thrived in the field, exiting the district game without an error.
Allyson Anderson, Grace Jones, and Celya Kiser each delivered multiple hits for the Lady Raiders. Anderson went 3-for-4 at the plate to help lead McCreary Central’s offensive attack. Both Anderson and Kiser doubled. The productive Kiser drove in two of the Lady Raiders’ three runs. Taylor Sumner, who finished with one hit, drove in the Lady Raiders’ other run.
McCreary Central struggled defensively in more than one inning, committing four errors.
The Lady Raiders are slated to host Southwestern for another 48th District softball game on Thursday, April 26. First pitch for the upcoming McCreary Central-Southwestern softball game is set for 6 p.m..
