It was a day of sunshine during the annual Cumberland Falls Spring Cleanup as 632 volunteers took pride in their community by collecting 788 bags of trash along HWY 90 (Cumberland Falls Road) and below the Falls and shoreline. Of that total, 188 McCreary County volunteer gathered up 315 bags, 17 tires, 2 mattresses, and 7 TV/computer monitors from the McCreary County side. McCreary County’s Pleasant Ridge United Baptist Church was runner up for the community group with the most volunteers. The Church, with thirty-three members participating, also won $100 donated by the McCreary County 109 Board for the most volunteers from a specific, non-profit group from McCreary County. Pine Knot Job Corps was runner up in the school group category.
McCreary County’s Pamela Gibson was this year’s recipient of the Greene Service Award. The award was created in honor of the late Judge Jimmy Greene in “loving memory and recognition for his faithful and dedicated service, willing spirit, and labor of love.” Each year, the award is given to someone who exemplifies those qualities. It was first given at the 2017 Cumberland Falls Spring Cleanup and was presented to the Greene family.
