McCreary Central takes two from Scott

HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. – Visiting McCreary Central swept a doubleheader from Scott (Tenn.) on Monday, winning 17-1 and 24-10. More on the McCreary Central-Scott baseball doubleheader follows.
McCreary Central 17, Scott (Tenn.) 1 (5 innings): McCreary Central rolled past host Scott 17-1 in five innings in the opening game of a high school baseball doubleheader on Monday.
The Raiders set the tone early, scoring five runs in the top half of the first inning.
McCreary Central led 8-0 before Scott plated its lone run in the bottom half of the second inning.
The Raiders, under the direction of head coach Marc Taylor, scored 17 runs on 14 hits.
Defensively, McCreary Central committed only one error.
McCreary Central pitcher Evan Kidd earned the win. Kidd pitched a complete game, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four over five innings.
Kidd, Blake Corder, Thaddeus Baird and Austin Vanover each delivered multiple hits for the Raiders. Kidd, Corder and Baird collected three hits apiece to lead the McCreary Central offensive attack.
Scott committed five errors in the lopsided loss.
McCreary Central 24, Scott (Tenn.) 10 (4 innings): Austin Vanover delivered six RBIs to lead McCreary Central over host Scott (Tenn.) 24-10 in four innings in the nightcap of a high school baseball doubleheader on Monday night.
With the win, McCreary Central improved to 8-6.
The Raiders managed to outhit Scott 12-8.
McCreary Central pitcher Ryan Bruce worked a complete game and earned the win. Bruce pitched four innings, allowing 10 runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking zero.
Vanover, Bruce, Evan Kidd and Thaddeus Baird each managed multiple hits for the Raiders. Helping his pitching cause at the plate, Bruce went 3-for-4.
Each high school baseball team committed six errors.
McCreary entered the month of May with regular-season games remaining versus Wayne County, Berea, Clinton County, Danville, Barbourville, Southwestern, Lynn Camp, Whitley County, Pulaski County, Bell County, Pineville and Williamsburg.
