Reading Ranger Program: Blue Heron Decoration Day – May 19

Join us at the fourth annual Blue Heron Decoration Day event with a special story time and craft activity on Saturday, May 19. We will meet at the Blue Heron train depot at 10:30 a.m. (ET). Families can also meet at the McCreary County Library at 10:00 a.m. and follow staff to the Blue Heron outdoor museum.
This month, we will read, “In Coal Country” by Judith Hendershot and afterwards make traditional decoration day flowers. The Blue Heron Decoration Day event is an opportunity for visitors and families that once lived and worked in the Stearns Coal mining communities to join together for an afternoon of food, music, fellowship and remembrance.
This is a great opportunity to work towards this year’s GO BIG challenge. The Go Big Challenge is a year-long, self-paced, park-wide event created to encourage you to go out and explore YOUR park. For more information, go to https://www.nps.gov/biso/planyourvisit/go-big-2018-challenge.htm.
For more information or directions, please call the Blue Heron outdoor museum at (606) 376-3787.
