STEARNS – Notching an impressive win at home, McCreary Central knocked off visiting Wayne County 9-3 in a 48th District softball game on Tuesday, May 1.
McCreary Central pitcher Macey Welchel pitched a complete game and earned the win. Welchel surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking zero.
Wayne County pitcher Haleigh Criswell took the loss. Criswell allowed 15 hits and nine runs over six innings, striking out six and walking one.
Providing a big lift at the plate, Taylor Sumner homered for McCreary Central in the district victory. Homestanding McCreary Central scored nine runs on 15 hits.
Welchel, Sumner and Celya Kiser each provided multiple hits for the Lady Raiders. Welchel led McCreary Central at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with one RBI. Sumer finished with three hits and four RBIs for the Lady Raiders in the district win.
Another McCreary Central batter, Grace Jones, drove in two runs as the Lady Raiders won.
Wayne County tallied seven hits in the losing cause. Kenzie Upchurch and Alexie Baker led the Lady Cardinals with two hits apiece in the district softball clash.
McCreary Central continued to control its rivalry with Wayne County. The Lady Raiders blanked Wayne County 15-0 in five innings in a 48th District softball game in Monticello on April 20.
