GO BIG 2018 Healthy Hike: Yahoo Falls Loop, May 27

Earn points towards your 2018 GO BIG patch by joining a park ranger on a one hour guided hike to one of Kentucky’s tallest waterfalls, Yahoo Falls. The hike begins at 10 a.m. (ET) on May 27 at the Yahoo Falls parking area located on Yahoo Falls Road, off of Highway 700 near Whitley City, Kentucky. Yahoo Falls is 113 feet tall and flows into the Big South Fork River. Starting from the Yahoo Falls parking area, the trail descends a series of steps to actually pass behind the falls under one of the largest rock shelters in the area. Looping around, it crosses the creek at the top of the falls where there are gorgeous views from the towering sandstone cliffs above the rock shelter.
This ranger-led hike is free of charge. The trail is a 1.2 mile loop rated easy/moderate and does contain a long set of stairs. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear and bring plenty of water. Everyone is welcome. For more information or directions, please call the Blue Heron Interpretive Center at (606) 376-3787.
The GO BIG 2018 Challenge is a year-long park-wide event designed to motivate visitors to go out and explore their park. Participants will earn points by answering questions about the park, becoming a volunteer, taking part in National Park Service programs and events as well as hiking, biking or paddling in the Big South Fork NRRA. If you earn 100 points, you will receive a GO BIG 2018 Challenge patch, and awards will be given at the GO BIG 2018 celebration on December 8.
