It’s time once again to enjoy fresh, locally grown produce as the McCreary County Farmers’ Market hosts a soft opening on Saturday June 2, 2018. In addition to produce and fresh herbs, shoppers can find locally produced crafts, soaps, candles, jellies, jams, and baked goods. All produce sold at the market is grown and harvested in McCreary or adjacent counties. The variety of fresh produce offered at the Market typically increases as the local growing season moves into summer.
Farmers, added value vendors, and crafters are encouraged to join the Farmers’ Market. Vendor applications are available at the McCreary County Judge Executive’s Office, Soil Conservation Office, and at the County Extension Office. The regular vending fee for an entire season is $40.00 with a discounted fee of $20.00 for senior citizens (65 and over) and students (high school age and under.) There is a $5.00 fee per one day set up with those fees accumulating toward a full season fee. Each vendor who pays to set up for the season has access to one table, table cloth, and produce baskets. Scales are available for weighing produce.
The Market participates in the EBT, SNAP Double Dollar, and Senior Voucher programs. In addition to accepting EBT and SNAP, the Market accepts cash, debit, and credit cards. The Market is open from 9:00 a.m. until noon (or sell out.) Shoppers are advised to come early to get the best selection of fresh vegetables and other locally produced wares. The Market is locate adjacent to the McCreary County Soil Conservation Office on Cabin Creek Road in Stearns.
