With the Moonshiners’ Run Car Show and McCreary County Fair both billed for next week, McCreary Countians have some fun-filled days ahead of them.

The McCreary County Fair opens on Tuesday, July 10. On opening day, fair exhibit entries will be accepted at the multi-purpose building at the County Park from 1:00-7:00 p.m. with the traditional carnival opening its gates at the fairgrounds at 5:00 p.m. Gate fee for the carnival and related special events is $10.00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The gate fee for Friday and Saturday is $12.00. In addition to exhibits, nightly carnival rides, and food, Tuesday’s fair goers can participate in bingo and the corn hole competition. Registration for the corn hole competition (registration fee $5.00) is at 6:00 with first, second, and third place finishers taking home cash prizes. Wednesday night features a cake walk at 7:30, and Thursday offers music and a horse shoe competition. The horse shoe competition registration (5.00 fee) is at 6:00 p.m. The first place winner of the horse shoe tournament will snag $100.00 while second and third place finishers will grab $50.00 and $30.00 respectively. The weekend brings a double night of mud bogging fun with mud bog registration at 5:00 on Friday and 4:00 on Saturday. Drivers get in free at the gate but must pay a 20.00 fee to run. Mud bog action begins at 7:00 p.m. on both nights.
Vintage car and rockabilly enthusiasts can hit the streets of downtown historic Stearns on July 13-14 for the Moonshiners’ Run Car Show, a free event to participants and spectators.
The show kicks off Friday, July 13 at 6:00 p.m. with registration and a horsepower competition. At 8:00 p.m., dress for the 50s and take a step back in time at the Heritage Hall for the Rockabilly Ball-a night of dancing and great rockabilly music performed live by Zippy’s Clutch, a high energy, Nashville band. The Rockabilly Ball will also feature the Pin-up Contest (50s dress) and crowning of the 2018 Moonshiners’ Run Princess.

Saturday is the main event with the Show & Shine and more live rockabilly music. The first 200 registrants will receive a custom made moonshiner’s jug trophy, hand crafted by Kentucky Coal Crafters. The show is open to all makes and models of vehicles.
