Cox ranked as Class 3A, District 8 Player to Watch

STEARNS – McCreary Central junior wide receiver/defensive back Caleb Cox is ranked among the top players in Class 3A, District 8. Cox is listed as a Class 3A, District 8 Player to Watch in The Cats’ Pause 2018 Kentucky Football Yearbook.
Cox helped to lead McCreary Central during the 2017 season, recording 36 tackles. Offensively, Cox hauled in 18 receptions for 273 yards.
The Class 3A, District 8 Players to Watch list also includes Isiah Baker (Jackson County, Sr., QB/S/PK), Austin Campbell (Casey County, Sr., QB/DB), Colby Frazier (Bell County, Jr., RB/DB), Grant Gibson (Corbin, Sr., LB), A.J. Glenn (Casey County, Sr., RB/LB) and Christian Gosselin (Corbin, Sr., WR/DB).
A four-year starter, senior Corbin quarterback Chase Estep has been named the Preseason Class 3A, District 8 Player of the Year. Estep is poised to lead the Redhounds on the gridiron. He has made the move from running back to quarterback for the Corbin football team. During the 2017 season, the versatile Estep rushed 113 times for 710 yards and eight touchdowns. Estep led Corbin in rushing and ranked second in receiving. He hauled in 51 receptions for 631 yards and six TDs.
Corbin is picked to finish ahead of much-improved Casey County (10-2), Bell County (7-5), Jackson County (2-9) and McCreary Central (2-7) in Class 3A, District 8.
Tradition-rich Corbin has captured five state titles. Haddix will be looking to guide Corbin to its sixth state championship later in the fall.
The Redhounds ended the 2017 season 13-2, finishing runner-up to Boyle County in Class 3A.
Cox and his McCreary Central teammates resumed preseason practice earlier in the week. The Raiders are slated to visit Perry County Central for a season opener on Friday, Aug. 17.
