Slow start to OC Tax
Occupational tax receipts for the month of July, the first month of the new fiscal year, show a marked decrease over previous years. According to data from the Judge Executive’s Office a total of $101,474.81 was added to the General Fund from OC Tax revenues in July, the second lowest July total of the last seven years.
July of 2015 saw the lowest monthly collection over that period, netting only about $75,000 for the month. Since the Occupational Tax data was first reported monthly in 2012, as opposed to quarterly reports previously, July receipts have averaged over $129,000 for the month. Excluding 2015 from the total raises the average to about $138,000 per month.
County officials hope to net about $1 million for the General Fund through the Occupational Tax this budget year. They have exceeded that goal for the past three fiscal years, netting about $1.1 million each budget cycle.
Of the total $152,212.22 collected in July, $50,737.41 of the revenue is dedicated to the Jail Fund.
