Bow Bear Hunting opens Saturday

Bear hunting with archery/crossbows opens in McCreary County Saturday, October 27, 2018. The bear hunt in McCreary is limited to private land only. Appropriate license is required with quotas and restrictions applying. Hunters must purchase and possess proof of the appropriate valid bear permit in addition to an annual hunting license. Hunters must call 1-800-858-1549 after 9 pm on each day of a bear hunting season to check if the quota for that season has been reached. If a harvest quota has been reached, the hunting season will close that day 30 minutes after sunset. Hunters who harvest a bear must telecheck it by 8 pm and call within 24 hours to set-up a physical check of the bear and receive a tag issued by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. For more information on bear hunting season dates and restrictions for McCreary County go to Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife at Guide and look at the hunting guide posted on their web site.
