The first day of modern gun hunting season almost turned tragic as the Kentucky State Police reports a 7-year old youth was injured in a hunting accident this past weekend after reportedly being accidentally shot in the back.
According to reports the boy was hunting with his grandfather off Day Ridge Road Saturday, when a gun he had slung over his shoulder accidentally discharged, striking the young boy in the back.
The grandfather drove the child to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where he was later airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with “non-life threatening injuries.”
The KSP was alerted to the incident and is conducting an investigation, though no charges are expected to be filed.
