The McCreary County Industrial Authority Board announced the date for the grand opening of the new Fibrotex plant during their monthly Board meeting this week.
Deputy Judge Executive Nathan Nevels, who also serves as Economic Development Director, informed the Board that a grand opening ceremony for the new plant in Stearns has been tentatively set for Thursday, August 29 at 9:00 a.m.
The IDA Board and Fiscal Court have assisted both Fibrotex and Outdoor Venture Corporation with the project by helping to secure grant funding and providing loans through the economic development fund to offset some of the costs. The additional funding not only helped propel the project forward, repayment of principal and interest of the loan will go back to the IDA Board to help finance additional projects in the future.
During Monday’s meeting the Board also continued discussion on finishing the spec building in Pine Knot and marketing the site to potential business investors. Nevels noted funding is available to finish the concrete flooring at the site through Rural Development funds coming to the county, but work on lighting and electric needed to be completed first.
The Board has secured a grant to advertise the site through the web and brochures, and are in the process of soliciting bids for that aspect of the project.
The McCreary County Industrial Authority Board meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 (the September meeting will be moved to the 9th due to the holiday).
