Two McCreary County teens were seriously injured in a Thursday afternoon accident after the all-terrain vehicle they were riding struck a bridge abutment – causing the two young men to be thrown from the vehicle to the creek bed below.
McCreary County Sheriff’s Deputy Stuart Bryant reports two young men, both age 15, were traveling along New Liberty Road on a 4-wheeler when the vehicle struck an abutment of a bridge. The impact sent both the driver and passenger tumbling over the handlebars of the vehicle down an approximate 12-foot drop – landing about 42-feet from the initial point of impact.
The boys, who were wearing protective helmets at the time of the crash, were given first aid by the mother of one of the victims until help could arrive. The mother had previous EMT training.
McCreary County EMS responded, transporting the victims to a nearby field where they were transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center via helicopter for treatment.
