Instead of ringing in the New Year with celebration, a local family is in mourning after the untimely passing of their loved one on New Year’s Eve.
Eric B. Wilson, 42, died Tuesday evening after apparently attempting to cross U.S. 27 on foot in Wiborg and was hit by a passing car.
According to the Kentucky State Police the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night just south of the northern entrance to the Wiborg Loop Road. Wilson, wearing dark-colored clothing, apparently attempted to cross the roadway in the darkness, when he was struck by a southbound pickup, driven by Mickey Tucker, 55. Tucker, along with other witnesses to the crash, told investigators they did not see the pedestrian in the roadway due to the dark conditions. Tucker was uninjured in the crash.
Traffic along U.S. 27 was re-routed along Wiborg Loop Road for several hours Tuesday as emergency personnel were on scene.
Trooper Kegan Bray is conducting the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Trooper Shaler Jones, members of the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, North McCreary and Whitley City Fire Departments, McCreary County EMS and the McCreary County Coroner’s Office.
