The McCreary County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an early morning burglary at the Pine Knot Super Stop (formerly Wilson’s Quick Stop) in Pine Knot.
The thieves broke in some time early Wednesday morning, prying open the front doors and making entry. While inside they cut wires to both the alarm system and security cameras – disabling both devices. Using some form of hand-held saw, the thieves cut through the armor plating of the ATM located inside the store and took an unknown amount of cash. They also took money from registers and a safe located inside the office. Reportedly the only other items stolen were some cigarettes and tobacco products.
Authorities believe the burglars had an intimate knowledge of the store due to them apparently knowing where to cut wires. Officers have recovered video taken from the camera system, which would have preserved a recording up to the point the wires were cut.
Sheriff Randy Waters and Deputy Tom Smith are conducting the investigation.
