The McCreary County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the report of a stabbing Sunday night in Whitley City.
Sheriff Randy Waters reports McCreary 911 received a call at 10:40 p.m. that night, where a woman claimed her husband, identified as John Chitwood, had been stabbed after getting in to an altercation over stolen property at a residence across from the McCreary Apartments on Old Bailey Road. The caller identified Alicia McDonald and Steven Waters as the alleged perpetrators.
Chitwood was transported by McCreary County EMS to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of his wounds, which were not life-threatening.
The two alleged assailants reportedly fled the scene before law enforcement could arrive. McDonald did call 911 later to claim Chitwood had been threatening her and had come to her residence and kicked down the door brandishing a knife and was trying to kill her.
McDonald said a friend attempted to intervene and fought with Chitwood, falling in to a glass table, which resulted in the wounds.
Deputy Dustin Ridner is investigating and stated he plans to present the case to the Grand Jury to seek a felony assault indictment against McDonald and Waters.
