A 13-year-old McCreary County boy was airlifted Sunday afternoon after being struck by a car as he reportedly attempted to cross Highway 92 in Stearns.
According to the police report the young man was struck by a passing Mustang and reportedly suffered lacerations to his head. The boy was checked out by EMTs at the scene and was alert, but was airlifted as a precautionary measure.
McCreary County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Tucker interviewed the driver of the vehicle, identified as Melissa Banford, 36, of Lexington. The Deputy noted the woman “presented herself with a semi-lethargic state” and was slow to respond to questions. Banford denied drinking or being under the influence of illegal narcotics, but did admit to taking the prescription medications of Vanlafaxine and Propranol, both of which have side effects of dizziness and drowsiness.
She reportedly failed a roadside sobriety test and was taken into custody. Branford was charged with OUI and failure to register transfer of a motor vehicle.
