Sharp rise in Covid-19 cases

McCreary School Superintendent reports five School District staff members have tested positive for the virus.

McCreary County has seen a dramatic increase in active Covid-19 cases. In one day, Monday, the county added 8 more active cases, including a 10 year old boy, Tuesday an additional 3 Covid-19 cases were added to the count, bringing the total active cases to 20. Corey Keith, McCreary School Superintendent, is reporting five School District staff members have tested positive for the virus. A local church is also reporting an outbreak among some of its congregation.
McCreary County, included in the Lake Cumberland District Health Department 10 county district, has experienced a spike in Coronavirus cases locally as well as District and statewide. McCreary has jumped to 20 active cases for a cumulative total cases in the county of 71. The LCDHD has classified McCreary County in the “accelerated spread” or orange category. There are currently none of the ten counties in the green “on track” category.
The LCDHD is seeing the number of active cases in the 10 counties increase to 293 with 18 hospitalized. Of those cases, 53 are asymptomatic. This represents an increase of 111 cases from this time period last week for the district.
Pulaski, Green, Cumberland and Taylor Counties are also reporting spikes in active cases. Some cases may be tied back to 9 long term care facilities having clusters in 4 of those facilities, two of those are reporting substantial clusters. Long term care/residential facilities represent 31.6% of the cases reported. LCDHD is seeing businesses with 16.8% of the cases, family cases at 12.9%, places of worship at 9.9% of the cases, schools and travel each report 7.9% of the cases. Medical facilities and recreation are each reporting 8% of the cases.
The average age for all cases reported in this district is 48 years old and the average age of those deceased is 79 years of age. 48 % of all cases are over the age of 50, 14.7% are over the age of 40. Reported deaths from Covid-19 by age for Lake Cumberland District; 51 % were 80 years old and over; 30% were 70 to 79 years of age; 13% were 60 to 69 years of age.
McCreary County has a cumulative total cases of 71. The Lake Cumberland 10 county district has a cumulative total cases reported of 1,748 since the pandemic started and 53 deaths. Statewide there have been 46,798 confirmed cases and 918 deaths.
Scott County Tennessee is reporting 53 active cases bringing their cumulative total to 154 with 2 deaths for the county.
