The McCreary County Board of Education met briefly in regular session to deal with routine matters and also to give a deserved raise to classified full-time cooks and custodians working in the school district.
Following up on a request initially made by Board Member Deborah Gibson in a meeting earlier this fall, Finance Director Lauren King gathered information for Superintendent Keith and the Board regarding the feasibility of changing the current salary schedule to reflect a pay increase. As a result of those findings, the Board voted unanimously to give the cooks and custodians a $1.00 per hour increase in pay.
In other business, the Board approved or acknowledged the following:
-Approved policy revision (2nd reading) for disposal of school property-reflecting disposal of property purchased with Federal Funds.
-Acknowledged nominations from McCreary County for KSBA’s First Degree Scholarship.
-Approved Phoenix Preferred Care MOA for 2020-2021 school year.
-Approved Emergency Certification for Sarah Mounce and Timothy Freels.
After student Addilynn New assisted with the pledge of allegiance, McCreary County School Superintendent Corey Keith complimented staff on a successful return to school. With the District now in week three of in-person classes, Keith said the return to school after seven months of virtual and distance learning has gone “wonderfully well.” Keith said he is both grateful and humbled in seeing the efforts of staff and the patience demonstrated by parents and members of the community as the District maneuvers the re-opening of schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The next meeting of the McCreary County Board of Education will be Monday, November 23, 20202 at 6:00 pm at McCreary County Middle School.
