A car chase that began on December 27, 2020 around 2:00 a.m. turned into a foot chase with five arrested. Deputy Aaron Tucker had been alerted by Constable Cody Stephens of a subject who was driving on a suspended license and that the subject had turned onto East Hwy 700. Constable Stephens followed the subject and attempted to stop him. Deputy Tucker went around Stephens as the subject turned onto Taylor Ridge Road.
The road was snow covered in places causing the subject’s car to skid out of control and at times run through the ditch line. Driving down a steep, snow covered hill the subject drove his vehicle into a ditch to keep from skidding over an embankment. He eventually turned onto a Forest Service road that was gated and fled on foot. Deputy Tucker approached the vehicle and saw four people still inside the vehicle. The four people were detained by the Deputy and aided by Constable Stephens. Deputy Tucker then followed the fleeing subject’s tracks in the snow.
After an estimated two to two and a half miles the subject was found behind a rock and handcuffed. A search of the vehicle located a white crystallized substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Avary Garner Taylor of Whitley City, KY and the four occupants of the vehicle were arrested.
