Invited by Judge Greene, representatives of Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) recently visited the Outdoor Venture Corporation (OVC) and Fibrotex facilities to learn more about our county’s contracts for supplying the United States Military with tents, camouflage netting, and other materials. While in McCreary County, Colby Hall, director of SOAR, and his co-worker, Tal Jones, met with OVC’s COO Ray Moncrief, OVC’s CEO JC Egnew, Judge Greene, and McCreary County Director of Economic Development Nathan Nevels. The group toured both factories with Roger Branscum-OVC’s Manufacturing Manager and viewed a company overview presentation by Anita Sutton.
SOAR representatives were also interested in learning more about McCreary County’s industrial site. Additionally, SOAR plans to promote tourism in McCreary County through their Explore Appalachia video series and will be meeting with county representatives about the potential for local expansion of the AppHarvest indoor vegetable growing operations currently operating in Eastern Kentucky.
