Verbal dispute ends in tragedy

A verbal dispute ended tragically for a Pine Knot man last Saturday who was fatally shot.
Saturday, April 10, 2021 the McCreary County 911 notified Kentucky State Police, the London Post, at approximately 6:35 PM, of a fatal shooting that took place outside of a residence on Marshes Siding Road. The Kentucky State Police issued the following statement.
‘The preliminary investigation reveals that McCreary County 911 was notified of a verbal dispute involving Ashlee R. Bytheway, 36, of Whitley City and Brandon J. Probus, 31, of Pine Knot. During the investigation, it was determined Ashlee Bytheway shot Probus once while he was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Mr. Probus was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by the Pulaski County Coroner. Mr. Probus was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
As a result of the investigation, KSP has arrested Ashley Bytheway on charges of Murder and have placed her in the Knox County Detention Center.
The investigation is continuing by Post 11, Detective Billy Correll. He was assisted at the scene by Post 11 personnel, McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, McCreary County EMS and the Pulaski County Coroner.’
A search warrant was issued that evening for the residence on Marshes Siding Road, Bytheway’s vehicle and Probus’ vehicle. A search was conducted to recover the gun, bullets and any other evidence pertinent to the investigation.
