Drug charges and Theft lead Grand Jury indictments

Theft by Deception and drug charges were the predominate indictments the Grand Jury returned in July.
The Grand Jury met in regular session and made the following returns and filed them with the McCreary Circuit-District Court on July 26, 2021. Fourteen people were indicted with the following charges.
Danny Michael Stephens of Whitley City was charged in two separate indictments. The first indictment was that on or about the 4th day of June, 2020, Stephens committed the alleged offense of: Theft by Deception of the Value of Greater than $1000 but less than $10,000 by knowingly and unlawfully taking monies in the amount of $3840.00 owned by Virginia Henderson for the production of kitchen cabinets in which he did not produce.
Danny Michael Stephens second indictment was that on or about June 4, 2020, Stephens committed the alleged offense of: Theft by Deception of the Value of Greater than $1000 but less than $10,000 by knowingly and unlawfully taking monies in the amount of $4250.00 owned by Jason Brian Howard for the production of kitchen cabinets in which he did not produce.
Michael Henderson of Richmond, KY was indicted on one count. That on or about the 23rd day of June, 2021, Henderson, individually or in complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance.
Daphne Henderson of Richmond, KY was indicted on one count. That on or about the 23rd day of June, 2021, Henderson, individually or in complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in her possession a quantity of Methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance.
Sherry Baird of Stearns, KY was indicted on three counts. Count I states that on or about the 19th day of April, 2021, Baird committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in her possession a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance. Count two states that on or about April 19, 2021, Baird committed the alleged offense of: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, first offense, by having in her possession items commonly used for the ingestion and/or distribution of illegal controlled substances. Count three states that on or about April 19, 2021 Baird committed the alleged offense of: Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, first offense by operating a motor vehicle on the public highways while under the influence of intoxicants.
Melissa Nelson of Oneida, TN was indicted on three counts. Count one states that on or about April 20, 2021 Nelson committed the alleged offense of: Tampering with Physical Evidence by destroying, mutilating, concealing, removing or altering physical evidence which would have been used in an official proceeding. Count two states that on or about April 20, 2021 Nelson committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, first offense by having in her possession a quantity of Xanax, a schedule IV controlled substance. Count three states that on or about April 20, 2021 Nelson committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in her possession a quantity of controlled substance.
Amy Harris of Marshes Siding, KY was indicted on two counts. Count one states that on or about May 9, 2021 Harris committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in her possession a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance. Count two states that on or about May 9, 2021 Harris committed the alleged offense of: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, first offense by having in her possession items commonly used for the ingestion and/or distribution of illegal controlled substances.
Kenny Cooper of Pine Knot, KY was indicted on two counts. Count one states that on or about May 9, 2021 Cooper committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in his possession a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance. Count two states that on or about May 9, 2021 Cooper committed the alleged offense of: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, first offense by having in his possession items commonly used for the ingestion and/or distribution of illegal controlled substances.
David Adkins of Revelo, KY was indicted on two counts. Count one states that on or about May 30, 2021 Adkins committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in his possession a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance. Count two states that on or about May 30, 2021 Adkins committed the alleged offense of: Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, first offense by operating a motor vehicle on the public highways while under the influence of intoxicants.
Patrick Ross of Revelo, KY was indicted on one count. Count one states that on or about June 7, 2021 Ross committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in his possession a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance.
James Ridner of Parkers Lake, KY was indicted on one count. Count one states that on or about June 14, 2021 Ridner committed the alleged offense of: Escape in the Second Degree by escaping from the custody of McCreary County Transport Officer Larry Pryor after being charged with a felony.
Shane Obermiller of Whitley City, KY was indicted on four counts. Count one states that on or about April 25, 2021 Obermiller, individually or in complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in his possession, for the purpose of sale, a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance. Count two states that on or about April 25, 2021 Obermiller, individually or in complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in the third degree, first offense by having in his possession, for the purpose of sale, 555 Xanax, a schedule IV controlled substance. Count three states that on or about April 25, 2021, individually or in Complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, first offense by having in his possession items commonly used for the ingestion and/or distribution of illegal controlled substances. Count four states that on or about April 25, 2021 Obermiller committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, first offense by having in his possession a quantity of Clonazepam, a schedule IV controlled substance.
Perry Massengill of Lexington, KY was indicted on three counts. Count one states that on or about April 25, 2021 Masssengill, individually or in complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in his possession, for the purpose of sale, a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance. Count two states that on or about April 25, 2021 Massengill, individually or in complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in the third degree, first offense by having in his possession, for the purpose of sale, 555 Xanax, a schedule IV controlled substance. Count three states that on or about April 25, 2021, individually or in Complicity with another, committed the alleged offense of: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, first offense by having in his possession items commonly used for the ingestion and/or distribution of illegal controlled substances.
Barry Canada of Bronston, KY was indicted on two counts. Count one states that on or about April 11, 2021 he committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having in his possession a quantity of methamphetamine, a schedule II controlled substance. Count two states that on or about April 11, 2021 Canada committed the alleged offense of: Possession of a Controlled Substance second degree, first offense by having in his possession a quantity of buprenorphine.
