Board of Education Meets for Working Session
By Eugenia Jones
The McCreary County Board of Education met for a special working session Board meeting last week (October 14) to discuss use of face coverings, contact tracing, and the McCreary County Middle School renovation project. Prior to those discussions, the Board entered into executive session to discuss pending litigation. When the Board re-entered regular session, no action was taken regarding the executive session.
During the meeting, Board members discussed options available to them as they continue developing a matrix determining when face coverings will/will not be required during school. Surrounding school districts vary in their policies with some districts requiring masks at all times while others link the wearing of masks to specific numbers of active COVID-19 cases. The McCreary County Board is expected to have updated guidelines prepared by the end of the month. Currently, face coverings are required during school.
Board members also discussed construction management versus contract management in regard to the Middle School renovation project. Members seemed interested in construction management as it allows the Board more involvement during the construction process.
No actions were taken during the October 14 special working session.
