Stearns Cemetery Walk

Photos by Eugenia Jones

The McCreary County Historical & Genealogical Society presented the Stearns Cemetery Walk on October 18.  In looking at the names of people buried in the Stearns Cemetery, most are common to the early setters who lived in Whitley, Pulaski, or Wayne Counties prior to the organization of McCreary County.  However, there are several families who came from foreign lands.  For example, Gunard A. Gronwall came from Sweden.  The Stearns community was truly a melting pot of the old and new.  After a welcome and introduction, members and volunteers presented the history of those buried in 15 different grave sites.  Presenters for the event were:  Sam Perry, Beth Kilburn, Kay Morrow, Larry Monday, Peggy Wilson, Christina Hollis, Grady Wilson, Wanda Worley, and Florence King.
