Fugitive arrested

McCreary Sheriff Randy Waters reported on Friday, October 22, 2021, Deputy Alex Jones initiated a traffic stop on KY 2792 after observing a red Camry crossing the double yellow line. The Camry pulled into the parking lot of the Family Dollar store where the driver jumped out as the officer approached. Deputy Jones noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car and saw a large bag of a bud like substance that looked like marijuana.

When Deputy Jones asked the male driver to place his hands behind his back, the man started running. A foot pursuit ensued and after several minutes Deputy Jones was able to take the man into custody. It was later learned that the man had two warrants from Kentucky and a felony warrant out of Tennessee.

Cody Ryan Hedge, age 30, of Oneida, Tennessee was arrested and charged with the alleged offenses of Reckless Driving, No operators-moped license, Resisting arrest, Fleeing or evading police, 2nd degree (on foot), Possession of Marijuana, Failure to produce insurance card, No registration receipt, Bail jumping, 1st degree, Failure to appear, Fugitive. Hedge was charged in Tennessee and an arrest warrant issued for alleged Aggravated burglary and Theft over $2500 that occurred on or about September 18, 2020 in Scott County Tennessee.  

Hedge was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office indicated they will extradite Hedge.
