Magistrates team up for Build a Bed Project

By Eugenia Jones

Magistrates Bobby Strunk and Randy Maxwell have teamed up with others in McCreary County to complete the “Build a Bed” project.  The group will be making twin size beds for underprivileged children in the community.

“I feel sorry for kids without a bed,” Strunk said.  “Times are hard now, and every child deserves a bed to sleep in.  Some are sleeping on the floor or on a mattress on the floor.  Sometimes, it is a big deal for a kid to have their very own bed to sleep in.”

With the goal of building twenty beds complete with mattresses, the group is seeking volunteers, monetary donations, building materials, and twin size mattresses.

Thus far, the group has enlisted volunteer help from local carpenters.  They have also received donations from JC Egnew, United Cumberland Bank, Lumber King, Hometown Furniture, and others.

Once completed, the beds will be distributed to children at the two elementary schools via the McCreary County School District Family Resource Centers.
