Attempted Murder, Drugs lead Grand Jury indictments

Attempted murder charges and drug charges dominated the Grand Jury indictments. The McCreary County Grand Jury met in regular session on December 20, 2021 and handed down 15 indictments.
Phillip Dobbs of Whitley City, KY was indicted on three counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about October 7, 2021. Count 1 charges Dobbs with Attempted Murder by firing a gun toward Darrell Threet in an attempt to kill Threet. Count 2 charges Dobbs with Attempted Murder by firing a gun toward Heather Threet in an attempt to kill her. Count 3 charges Dobbs for Wanton Endangerment in the first degree by engaging in conduct which created a danger of death or serious physical injury to a minor child.
The charges against Phillip Dobbs resulted from a Kentucky State Police, London Post investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on October 7, 2021 on Claude Bryant Road, Whitley City, KY involving Dobbs and Darrell Threet. The preliminary KSP investigation revealed that McCreary County Sheriff’s Department was notified of an altercation involving Dobbs and Threet at approximately 8:43 PM. During the investigation it was determined Darrell Threet shot Mr. Dobbs while they were in an altercation. Mr. Dobbs was treated at Lake Cumberland Hospital then transported to University of Kentucky Hospital. Mr. Threet drove himself to McCreary E911 and waited for police. At that time, no charges were placed.
One week later on October 14, 2021, KSP Detective Eric Moore filed a warrant of arrest against Phillip Dobbs with the McCreary Circuit-District Court in relation to the shooting incident. Dobbs was arrested by KSP Trooper Keagan Bray on October 14th and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
Wylie Crum of Xenia, Ohio was indicted on 10 counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about October 18, 2021. Count 1 charges Crum for Receiving stolen property of the value of $1000 or more by receiving and possessing a stolen 1996 Chevrolet truck. Count 2 charges Crum for Assault in the third degree by striking Dorman Patrick, a police officer and other officers causing physical injury. Count 3 charges Crum with Fleeing or Evading the police in the first degree by failing to obey signals of police officers to stop a vehicle driven by Crum in an attempt to elude law enforcement officials and doing so while under the influence of intoxicants. Count 4 charges Crum with Fleeing or Evading the police in the first degree by failing to obey signals of Dorman Patrick and MCSO Deputies to stop running in an attempt to elude law enforcement officials. Count 5 charges Crum with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree, first offense by having possession of a quantity of Methamphetamine. Count 6 charges Crum with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Second Offense by operating a motor vehicle on public highways while under the influence of intoxicants, and that Crum has previously been convicted of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of Intoxicants. Count 7 charges Crum with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, First Offense. Count 8 charges Crum with Terroristic Threatening in the Third Degree by threatening to kill or cause serious physical injury to Police Officers at the scene. Count 9 charges Crum with Giving a Police Officer False Identifying Information by giving Officer Patrick a false name with the intent to mislead the officer. Count 10 charges Crum with Resisting Arrest by failing to follow commands of the officers affecting his arrest.
Michael Kidd of Stearns, KY was indicted on two counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about March 17, 2021. Count 1 charges Kidd for Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine. Count 2 charges Kidd with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, First Offense by operating a motor vehicle on public highways while under the influence of intoxicants.
Joshua New of Stearns, KY was indicted on two counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about September 7, 2020. Count 1 charges New with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense for having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine. Count 2 charges New with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of Hydrocodone.
James Ridner of Parkers Lake, KY was indicted on 1 count, the alleged offense occurring on or about September 7, 2020. Ridner was charged for Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense for having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine.
Karen Vanover of Parkers Lake, KY was indicted on 2 counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about November 12, 2020. Count 1 charges Vanover with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense for having in her possession a quantity of Methamphetamine. Count 2 charges Vanover for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Second Offense by operating a motor vehicle on public highways while under the influence of intoxicants; AND that Vanover has previously committed and been convicted of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants: McCreary County, KY on 11/25/2015.
Eddie Mobley of Stearns, KY was indicted for the alleged offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, Second Offense by having in his possession Over 2 grams of Methamphetamine occurring on or about January 18, 2021.
Ashton Goins of Parkers Lake, KY was indicted on two counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about September 5, 2021. Count 1 charges Goins with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine. Count 2 charges Goins with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of Alprazolam.
Janet Waters of Pine Knot, KY was indicted on two counts, the alleged offense occurring on or about September 5, 2021. Count 1 charges Waters with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense by having in her possession a quantity of Oxycodone. Count 2 charges Waters for Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, First Offense by having in her possession a quantity of Clonazepam.
Eddie Phillips of Strunk, KY was indicted on one count, the alleged offense occurring on or about October 17, 2021. Phillips was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine.
Brandon Mays of Stearns, KY was indicted on one count, the alleged offense occurring on or about November 9, 2021. Mays was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine.
Lee C. Crabtree of Whitley City, KY was indicted on three counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about December 5, 2021. Count 1 charges Crabtree with Possession of a controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense for having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine. Count 2 charges Crabtree for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Intoxicants, First Offense by operating a motor vehicle on public highways while under the influence of intoxicants. Count 3 charges Crabtree with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, First Offense by having in his possession items commonly used for ingestion and/or distribution of illegal controlled substances.
Larry Crabtree of Pine Knot, KY was indicted on two counts, the alleged offenses occurring on or about November, 14, 2021. Count 1 charges Crabtree with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of Methamphetamine. Count 2 charges Crabtree with Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, First Offense by having in his possession a quantity of buprenorphine.
Kenny Wilson, address unknown, was indicted for committing the alleged offense of Assault in the Second Degree for stabbing a man with a knife, causing serious physical injury, occurring on or about September 25, 2021.
Dustin Gilreath of Pine Knot, KY was indicted for committing the alleged offense of Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon by having in his possession a Ruger .380 cal. handgun after having previously been convicted of a felony, occurring on or about December 9, 2021.

Following an investigation by the Kentucky State Police, London Post, Phillip Dobbs was arrested on October 14, 2021 and charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of wanton endangerment. Phillips was indicted on December 20, 2021.
