Stivers Replaces Max Wise as Senator in McCreary County

By Eugenia Jones

When Democratic Governor Andy Beshear recently signed into law the redistricting map for Kentucky State Senate, McCreary County officially moved and became part of the 25th Senate District along with Whitley, Knox, Clay, Jackson, and Owlsley Counties.  As a result, Republican Senate President Robert Stivers of Manchester, KY now officially represents McCreary Countians in Frankfort, replacing former McCreary County Senator Max Wise.

Contrary to his approval of the redistricting plan for the Senate, Governor Beshear vetoed the legislative redistricting plan for the House of Representatives.  The Republican legislature promptly overrode the Governor’s veto.  Within minutes of the legislative override of the Governor’s veto, the Kentucky Democratic Party filed suit over the House of Representatives redistricting plan.  The matter will now be resolved in Court.

The controversial redistricting plan includes very little change for McCreary County, leaving McCreary in its current 52nd District along with Wayne County and a portion of Pulaski County.
